Psalm 74:8 - "They said in their hearts, Let us destroy them together: they have burned up all the synagogues of God in the land." The rest of this chapter reminds us that God sees what the wicked are doing, and the punishment of the wicked in the past. Our country is being described in this verse. Our job is to obey the commands of God for how we should live, and let him take care of dealing with the wicked. - Brian Boots

Isaiah 9:21 - "For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still." You must read the previous verses to understand the context of this verse. But this is about as accurate a picture as you can get of America. God holding his hand out for us to take it and come back to Him. Like a father who loves his children, He disciplines but always puts His arms out to embrace His child. But we refuse, as a country, and to what end? We are literally falling apart at the moral and spiritual seams. Our prayer should truly be "Revive us Again!" - Brian Boots

Ecclesiastes 5:7 - "For in the multitude of dreams and many words there are also divers vanities: but fear thou God." There is so much emphasis put on the American Dream and being successful. Dreams and plans we have for tomorrow, next week, next year, 5 years from now. There is nothing wrong with dreaming and planning, but The Preacher cuts straight to the chase in this verse, and says there is 1 sure path to true success,"Fear thou GOD" How are we doing on this scale of true success? - Brian Boots

Proverbs 20:4 - "The sluggard will not plow by reason of the cold; therefore shall he beg in harvest, and have nothing." This verse is mostly used to talk about the importance of hard work, but there is very much a spiritual application here also. We've heard several messages recently about our job as Christians to win souls, but it is so easy to come up with excuses for not doing it. Let's be looking for opportunities to work for Christ, instead of looking for excuses to get out of it. It would be a shame to stand before God at judgement(harvest) with nothing to show for the life He gave us. - Brian Boots

Proverbs 3:7 - "Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil." Too often, we think our ideas are the best and only way there is. Solomon here admonishes us to take our focus off of how smart we think we are, and focus on fearing the Lord and running from evil. That's some wise counsel. Psalm 133:1 - "Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!" It is always a breath of fresh air coming to church, to worship and fellowship with friends who have the same spiritual goals as I do. We should take every opportunity to be with our Christian brothers. Prayer meeting, church, church functions. It is good for us spiritually. But the key word is "unity". Let's make sure that there is no hint of bitterness in our lives, toward any of our Christian family. If there is, take care of it. - Brian Boots

Psalm 112:1-3 - "Praise ye the LORD. Blessed is the man that feareth the LORD, that delighteth greatly in his commandments. His seed shall be mighty upon earth: the generation of the upright shall be blessed. Wealth and riches shall be in his house: and his righteousness endureth for ever." We work so hard every day to provide physically for our families, but these verses give a promise for the spiritual providing for our families. This spiritual provision is dependent on our fear of the Lord as head of the family.  How secure is your family's spiritual future? They are depending on you. - Brian Boots

Psalm 103:10-11 - "He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him."  I am so thankful that although I have many shortcomings and am very far from perfect, God is still so good to me, and does not reward me according to my sin and what I really deserve. This is a blessing He gives only to those that fear Him. As Christians we have many disappointments in our lives, but thankfully His mercy is not one of them. - Brian Boots

Psalm 92:13-14 - "Those that be planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing;". This is my hope and prayer and hopefully that of every Christian, flourishing and bearing fruit for Christ right into old age. This is not done by accident though. Psalm 2:8 - "Ask of me and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession." I don't think this is too much of a stretch to say that this verse could be taken as; if we would ask God in prayer for the souls of the unsaved we are working on, he will answer our prayer with their salvation being added to our account. Are we praying like we should for those lost souls that we know? -Brian Boots

Psalm 81:13 - "Oh that my people had hearkened unto me, and Israel had walked in my ways!" - If you can, read the last verses of this chapter following vs 13 as well. It speaks of the good things God had in store if His people would just have obeyed his voice and turned their hearts to Him. I think that most of our problems are mostly our own faults. God has so much in store for us and our families, but often we are too stubborn or proud to surrender our lives to Him, the one who knows the good plans He has for our lives. If only He could get us to hand over the reins of our hearts to Him. - Brian Boots

Psalm 73:13 - "Verily I have cleansed my heart in vain, and washed my hands in innocency." In this entire Psalm, the Psalmist is calling out to God about how those of the world seem to prosper in their wickedness, and yet he struggled along, fighting to be clean, and seemingly getting no blessing from God for his desire to be right - until vs. 17. "Until I went into the sanctuary of God, then understood I their end." In the end, sinners will pay for their sin, and we know the joy and blessing we have coming to us in Heaven. Let what we have learned in church about the sinners end,  motivate us to compassion for their souls. - Brian Boots

Psalm 65:2,4 -  O thou that hearest prayer, unto thee shall all flesh come. All the earth shall worship thee, and shall sing unto thee; they shall sing to thy name. Selah." These are some awesome facts about what is to come, that are stated as exactly that in Psalms, facts.  There is no question that every man on this earth will sing the praise and glory of His name. I am so thankful that as Christians, we get to sing praise from grateful hearts and not by force as many will before they are cast into hell. Let's not forget to sing those praises for all His goodness in this busy time of the year. - Brian Boots

Psalm 53:2-3 - "God looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, that did seek God. Every one of them is gone back: they are altogether become filthy; there is none that doeth good, no, not one." It should be our prayer that God would never have to look down on us to see if we are still seeking Him, and have to say no, we have gone back and become filthy. A good motivator to continue seeking Him, is to continually look back at the cross. - Brian Boots

Psalm 38:10,15 - "My heart panteth, my strength faileth me: as for the light of mine eyes, it also is gone from me. 15. For in thee, o Lord, do I hope..."  It is not unordinary for our hearts to be heavy at times, whether because of our own sin, or a burden we are carrying. Often we turn to pleasure or material things to ease that ache, but as Christians we must remember that our hope is in Christ alone. - Brian Boots

Psalm 33:8-9 - "Let all the earth fear the Lord: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him. For He spake and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast."  This last phrase is a reference to Joshua when the sun stood still for him. We all know this story and are amazed by it. We are told to stand in awe of Him, and He is certainly still in the business of giving us things to be in awe of. If we would only slow down enough to recognize those things and give Him the glory He deserves. - Brian Boots

Psalms 31:7-8 - "I will be glad and rejoice in thy mercy: for thou hast considered my trouble; thou hast known my soul in adversities; and hast not shut me up into the hand of the enemy."   We know from the story of Job that although God does allow the Devil to bring adversity into our lives, He does in fact have to get permission from our Father. And before He permits it, He considers what we can handle and has mercy on us. This can then be a comfort to us then knowing that our trials are very much under His control.  - Brian Boots
