1 Samuel 2:17 - "Wherefore the sin of the young men was very great before the Lord  for men abhorred the offering of the Lord." There is a great responsibility to keep the House of the Lord sacred and to be serious about those things that God tells us are important from His word.  Men in this passage obeyed God even though those in charge of the temple abused the role they had been given. Church should be a place away from all the abuses and excesses of the world.  A sacred place where to the best of our ability we are serving Christ for His glory not for our own. -Jason Brothers

So often we want God to answer prayers right away in our life and fail to realize how good the waiting process is for us.  If we don't learn to build a lasting, trusting relationship with Christ, we may miss what He is teaching us. Psalm 28:6 - "Blessed be the Lord because He hath heard the voice of my supplications." It is comforting to know that God hears our prayers.  He may not answer them right away and He may never grant our request but He hears our prayers.  Don't you think He knows what is best for us? Proverbs 16:2 - "He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty."  I often quote this verse to my sons hoping they do not inherit their dad's temper.  As Christians, we need to make a conscious effort to control our tongue, actions, and attitude before others when things for whatever reason don't go our way.  If that is just the way you are and sometimes you just can't help it, then work on changing it.  We are often known by the way we handle things.  Using good judgement, patience, and reason is a great way to show Christ to others. - Jason Brothers

Proverbs 23:28 - "She also lieth in wait as for a prey and increases the transgressors among men." Interesting how different a situation this is from Proverbs 7 where the man puts himself in the situation to do wrong.  It is not enough to stay away from those places and those people.  We as Christian men must be faithful in our walk with God so that He can help us guard against those who want to steal our testimony and character.  You are not looking,  but there may be one looking for you. Nehemiah 8:3b - "And the ears of all the people were attentive unto the book of the law."  I heard a preacher say recently, that it is so important for us to prepare ourselves for hearing the Word of God preached by confessing sin and finding quiet time to focus before going to church.  So often times we rush into church like it is another gym, restaurant, or grocery store and then wonder why we get nothing out of it.  This year go to church with a purpose of receiving a blessing because you have prepared your heart. - Jason Brothers

Proverbs 16:20 - "He that handleth a matter wisely shall find good and whoso trusteth in the Lord happy is he."  The sin we deny (pride, selfishness, what we want, how we look) when we handle a matter wisely, gives way to a trust in Christ that satisfies.  Grasp hold of good judgement, slowness to anger, and a humble spirit.  Handling your  problems wisely will become easier. -Jason Brothers

Matthew 26:75 - "And Peter remembered the word of Jesus which said unto him Before the cock crow thou shalt deny me twice.  And he went out and wept bitterly." Peter's failures before the crucifixion allowed him to be the help God wanted him to be at Pentecost and throughout the rest of his life.  God has a way of humbling us so that we depend solely on Him.  You can choose to humble yourself or God will choose to do so. If we will learn from it like Peter, the positive is that it will make us better Christians and a help to those in need. - Jason Brothers

Genesis 14:14 - "And when Abram heard that his brother was taken captive he armed his trained servants born in his own house three hundred and eighteen and pursued them unto Dan." Abram automatically went out to save Lot without any thought for himself or why Lot was in that condition.  When people need you the most, it is likely because they have gone against what they know to be right.  Be ready to help those in need this week no matter their reason for needing help. - Jason Brothers
